The semantic Web, a way towards the understanding of the machines
The finders will be able to read the sense of the words, not only their form
The search of a subject through the World Wide Web not always is easy task. Million pages exist that, in addition, increase every day, and to obtain that in the screen of the computer they appear those that really can respond which we looked for is more and more complicated.
If, for example, somebody introduced in a finder the phrase “doctoral theses on semantic Web, whatever it was not a machine would offer results that corresponded with data bases on doctoral theses.
A motor search, nevertheless, offers 85,400 results if it is introduced without quotation marks, and no of which appears in two front page is a place in which to be able to dive, as well, in different investigations on the subject. If quotation marks are added, not even Google offers results.
The semantic Web tries to solve, indeed, this kind of problems. By aside, excess of noise in the searches and, on the other, impossibility to find what one looks for if is defined with too much exactitude.
The responsibility of this phase angle is in the form in which the finders work: they resist the words that the user introduces with whom they are in the pages that have indexed. They give back the results according to criteria of relevance that respond to their particular algorithms, but not to the most elementary logic of understanding of the human mind.
In order to resolve the question, the W3C proposes three types of special languages: RDF (formal description of resources), SPARQL (query language) and OWL (definition of ontologÃas).
